Let's face it: the original Mass Effect had already aged terribly when it was finally ported to PS3 in 2012, and here in 2021, it's a borderline disaster in terms of gameplay feel. Thankfully, BioWare has apparently taken the time to finetune the first game for Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
The official site says that the remastered Mass Effect will feature "gameplay enhancements". It details "improved aiming and weapon balance, sound effects, better Mako controls, input/controls, squad behaviour, cover behaviour, and gameplay cameras". Sounds good to us!
Hopefully these tweaks help the first Mass Effect feel better than ever. The original game has some of the best role-playing in the entire trilogy, but there's no denying its extreme jankiness.
Are you happy to hear about these enhancements? Wrestle with cover in the comments section below.

Whats up with all the lensflares lol
I purchased the first game back when I was regularly trading in games at GameStop and I was so close to returning it after the first couple hours of playing. I wa even in the GameStop parking lot with my copy and at the last minute decided “No, I’m going to give it another chance and go deeper into the game.” So glad I did because it was a memorable experience and the sequel was sublime. One of the best games I ever played. I never did play the third one because of the bad buzz. Maybe I’ll finally complete the story now.
"The original game has some of the best role-playing in the entire trilogy..."
You mean the only role-playing...
I believe this is partly why the game has taken so long to be remastered, because Mass Effect 1 has probably required a complete overhaul.
On the one hand, it's going to be great to play the game again with a feel more akin to Mass Effect 2, but on the other hand Mass Effect 1 has a lot of fans that prefer the style of gameplay is started with, and not the one it evolved in to in later entries.
@IonMagus JJ Abrams edition Mass Effect !
I hope they haven't messed with the Mako too much. I love taking her off some sweet jumps in low grav.
Hopefully the lift rides will be a lot faster this time around!
I like Mass Effect 1. The tank’s stupid but I liked it a lot more than the tank sections in 2.
“and here in 2020”...
Cant believe im gonna scan all Citadel keepers again.Gonna be epic again now in 4K
I hope they don't 'enhance' it to the point that it loses what makes it special. Mass Effect 1, just like Dragon Age 1, were in my opinion the best, deepest, most role-playing like games in their respective trilogies.
Just as long as they don't dumb down the RPG game design, which was mostly abandoned in the sequels.
The Mako sections would have been tremendously better if there was some variety to the planets you explored.
I never finished the first game. I think I only played a few hours of it and that's it.
Lucy James gives some good detail on the changes in this vid

"Comparison footage of a ride up to the Citadel's Presidium level lasts just 14 seconds in the Legendary Edition, down from 52 seconds in the original."
Well, this just won't do. I enjoyed the elevator rides because my teammates would go on a tangent and I enjoyed those exchanges. This "14 seconds" aggression will not stand! The dude minds!
Definitely my least favorite of all of them, felt like a Mako simulator. I still like it of course but don't have as many fond memories as the other two.
It really does need an update - the gameplay between ME1 and 2/3 are completely different.
I don't remember hating it when I first played it a few years ago, but it did have some kinks to work out. It was alright, but my main issue in hindsight was the framerate and texture pop-in. I still have nightmares about Saren's untextured face.
I can't freaking wait!
Did they ever fix that elevator glitch lol last time I played couldn't continue and forgot about it
Hi there fellow gamers.
Ah, Mass Effect. Still remember being super excited on getting the game on my Xbox 360 after watching all the trailers.
Didn´t know anything on how to proper play the game in terms of classes, weapons and teams. Had the same issue with KOTOR and Jade Empire.
Now, I pretty much can say i´m a connoisseur on this game, as well as 2 and 3.
Another trilogy for my collection

Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
I'll believe it when I see it
@willi3su
LOL true. It went heavy action in me2 and me3
The worst thing about Mass Effect 1 was its tediously long loading screens inside each mission. I hope they've changed that too.
